In 2005 Poland joined European Community. The draft plans scheduled change the currency to Euro first for year 2008 now probably not before 2012.
Still in Poland we use 'ZŁOTY' ( 'golden' ) and 1 Zł or 1 PLN = 100 grosz ( groshes).
In most of shops, restaurants and hotels you can pay with credit card, most of cards are accepted.
Around the market square you can exchange travelers cheques and cash in banks and private exchange agencies. The exchange agency is called 'Kantor'.
In agencies there is no commission, and the exchange rate has to be clear put on board, so some of the 'kantors' offer better rates that the banks ( that usually charge some commission), but some 'kantors' (usually in hotels) give about 10% lower rate, so be careful and check everything before.
At present the exchange is around 2,2 PLN for 1 US dollar, and 3,3 PLN for 1 Euro.
[You've probably noticed the conversion box on the right, however we put some links to the current exchange rates pages.
